Classrooms/Services
The ISD operates four (4) classrooms for Moderately Cognitively Impaired (CI):
These classrooms are located in local district buildings to provide an environment of inclusion
Dickinson County
Elementary and M.S./H.S. MoCI Program located at Norway High School
Transition MoCI Program located at the Willis Early Childhood Center
Iron County
MoCI Program located at Forest Park School
Three (3) Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) classrooms for pre-school children:
Willis Center - two classes
Bates Elementary in Iron County
Other services provided by the Intermediate School District include:
Speech and Language Therapy
The speech therapist conducts an evaluation of students who have speech or language difficulties. They provide direct service to students who have an Individual Education Plan (IEP).
Occupational Therapy
The OT evaluates the student's functional abilities in an educational setting. Therapy is based on education needs and the effect the disability has on classroom performance and/or daily living tasks.
Physical Therapy
The PT assesses and provides services appropriate to improve or maintain a student's level of physical functioning within the school environment so that any physical limitation does not affect the educational process.
School Psychology Services
The psychologist is responsible for evaluating students to determine eligibility for special education services. The psychologist works with local district personnel to identify supports for students who are having difficulty learning in their classrooms.
School Social Worker Services
The ISD provides students with social work services who are eligible for special education as emotionally impaired or who have significant social or emotional concerns or mental illness. The social worker also conducts evaluations and participates on the multidisciplinary team when students are referred for testing due to emotional or behavioral concerns.
Assistive Technology Services
The DIISD employs an assistive technology coordinator to serve students in both counties. Services includes making devices available for students with disabilities outlined in their IEP. AT services include assistive technology evaluation, training and instruction in the use of an AT device or software program for the student and/or school personnel.
