Dear Parent/Guardian:

Your son/daughter is enrolled in a class at the Dickinson-Iron Technical Education Center.  We are working very hard to instill in students a sense of responsibility and preparation for future employment. Based on this goal, we have adopted an attendance policy which stresses student accountability. It is VERY IMPORTANT that you call the Tech Center EVERY TIME your son/daughter is absent. If a phone call is not received within 24 hours, the absence will be considered unexcused and will result in automatic Saturday school or detention.
PLEASE CALL THE TECH CENTER ATTENDANCE HOT LINE AT 779-2697 OR TOLL FREE AT 1-800-971-1507. When you call, please leave your name, the student=s name, the date of the absence and the reason for the absence in the general delivery voice mail box. You may leave this information with one of our secretaries during school hours or in our general delivery voice mail box after hours. Our answering machine is available 24 hours a day.   I have enclosed a refrigerator magnet, which includes our telephone numbers for your convenience.

Please be advised that the Tech Center is now utilizing a four day absent limit for each 9 week quarter. All absences excused or unexcused that exceed the four day limit must be made up hour for hour. Failure to make up hours will result in a failing grade for the 9 week quarter. Please refer to your student handbook or call the Technical Center for further details regarding this policy.

Public Act 230 requires that each school inform parents relative to an annual safety report. I am pleased to report that the 2007-2008 school year resulted in no students being expelled, no crimes involving physical violence or gang related activity, no illegal possession of controlled substances, one theft and no vandalism.

I would appreciate your cooperation with our annual follow up survey. Please expect a phone call requesting information regarding your son/daughter=s job and education status. Students are contacted by telephone between February and May in the spring following twelfth grade. Participation is voluntary; however, the information requested is extremely helpful and important for us relative to improving our programs and securing federal funding.
I appreciate your cooperation with these policies. If you have any questions regarding any of this information please call the Tech Center at 779-2697.

Sincerely,

Paul Bonsall, Principal
