PAC
What is a PAC?
PAC stands for Parent Advisory Committee.
The Parent Advisory Committee serves in an advisory capacity for the development, updating and approval of the Dickinson-Iron Intermediate School District Plan for the Delivery of Special Education Programs and Services as well as provides input concerning improvements for Special Education services. With that purpose the PAC renders intercommunication, awareness, and involvement between parents, the community, local boards of education, the Intermediate School District, and the State Board of Special Education.
PAC members serve as support persons to parents, helping them through the special education process. They are a valuable resource to parents, providing them with information regarding:
-Special Education Law
-Parental Rights
-Programs/Services available from Schools
-Programs/Services available from Agencies
Why is there a PAC?
Parent Advisory Committees are mandated by Michigan state law. The specific statute is found in the Administrative Rules for Special Education under R 340.1838.
Many parents get overwhelmed at one point or another
along the journey through the Special Education System.
We understand.
As Parent Advisory Committee Members we are dedicated to helping you,
the parents, understand that you are the best advocate for your child.
Our focus is to share our experiences
and try to answer the questions you may have.
The PAC is also responsible for reviewing and providing input
into the Intermediate School District School Plan,
Transition Council and numerous other areas
that deal with Special Education.
We are Parents…
One parent helping another.
Where do the PAC meetings take place?
Most of the DIISD PAC meetings take place at the DIISD administrative building in Kingsford, MI. However each year the school districts have an opportunity to host a meeting and that meeting will take place in the hosting school district. Meetings are generally the first Monday of the month, during the school year.
