One of the functions of the Dickinson-Iron Intermediate School District (DIISD) is to provide programs for students with very special needs.
The Dickinson-Iron Intermediate School District oversees Special Education services to students who are residents of the six districts within Dickinson and Iron counties.
Special Education programs and services are intended to provide necessary support to students with disabilities to assure that yearly progress occurs in all curriculum areas. This progress can be achieved when students with disabilities have access to grade level learning opportunities and also receive appropriate individually developed supports.
In the State of Michigan, students with disabilities are entitled to services beginning at birth to the age of 26. The Dickinson-Iron Intermediate School District is committed to providing a comprehensive plan of evaluating and program planning which assures that students' needs are appropriately met according to Federal and State Special Education laws.
If you have any questions about Special Education services, please contact Dean Ruohomaki, Special Education Director, at 906-779-2692.
